These fence rails are made from locally grown and coppiced sweet chestnut and are designed to be slotted into our posts from the same woodlands. Due to the chestnut being felled and constructed here in Kent, this fencing option is a low carbon footprint alternative with an organic and natural style. Best of all, chestnut fencing is naturally rot resistant which means no chemicals or treatments are required. When calculating, allow posts to be at 1.8m apart for 2.0m rails and 2.7m apart for 2.9m rails as the cleft rails are fitted into cleft-morticed posts.
- Sweet Chestnut is a hardwood which is naturally rot-resistant and durable
- Typically last 20 to 30 years without treatment
- Can be used with either our 2 or 3 rail posts with each rail ended to fit the morticed posts
- Sold with bark in place which will naturally fall away over time
